A Canadian man wanted to make sure his wife’s wedding anniversary was finger lickin’ good.

Back in 2001, Mike and Angela Hovak Johnston served KFC to guests at their wedding reception without incident.

Ever since, the couple has made a point of enjoying the Colonel’s extra crispy vittles on their anniversary. This year looked to be different as Mike & Angela’s local KFC closed up shop, leaving the nearest one an eight-hour drive away.

But Mike wasn’t going to let that stop the fast foood tradition and drove the nearly 900 miles roundtrip to a KFC in Alberta, Canada.

“During March break, me and my son got up early one morning, drove 700 kilometers, picked up 15 buckets of KFC and drove 700 kilometers back — in one day,” he told CBC News.

Factoring in gas, tolls and the price of the chicken, he spent nearly $500 on the anniversary excursion, which he says was worth “every penny.” Who needs diamonds, when you got an Original Recipe value meal?

Guess you can say their love is all that and a bucket of chicken.
